Purpose of the Email Discussion List

The purpose of the SPUN Email Discussion List is to promote the discussion and sharing of information between SPUN/Spydus sites.

In order to subscribe to the list, your institution must be a financial member and you email address must be from that institution.  

To subscribe to the List

  1. Send an email message to  This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
  2. Leave the subject blank and suppress any signature you may have.
  3. In the body of the message type: subscribe SPUN-L Firstname Lastname
    [e.g. 'subscribe SPUN-L Joe Citizen'] 

Replies are set to come back to the Email Discussion List by default

  • This helps foster discussion and information sharing. Therefore there is little reason for "please reply to Email Discussion List" emails to be sent.
  • There is a slight cost of the occasional embarrassing replies to the Email Discussion List that are meant for colleagues but we believe the extra discussion and information sharing are worth it.
  • You will have to change the recipients if you wish to avoid replying to the Email Discussion List.

Civica Staff are on the Email Discussion List

  • This is useful for SPUN members and Civica staff.

Posting to the Email Discussion List should not replace logging Incidents

  • Even though Civica staff are on the Email Discussion List, site-specific problems have a slight risk of not being acted on if only sent to the Email Discussion List.  Different server versions and parameter settings may be causing site-specific issues and this information is not always clear in a Email Discussion List post. By all means still post and discuss on the Email Discussion List but your primary place for reporting errors should be to Civica.

To Unsubscribe:

  1. Send an email message to  This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
  2. In the body of the message type: signoff SPUN-L
  3. Leave the subject blank and suppress any signature you may have.

To send a message to the Email Discussion List

Messages will be sent to all members of the SPUN email Email Discussion List.

  1. Send your email to  This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
  2. Add a meaningful subject line.

To sending attachments

  • Only send attachments when necessary please.
  • ALWAYS add a message to the body of your email before attaching the file!
    A short message is okay, e.g. 'Please see attached document'. This is necessary for the attachment to display properly in the web archive.
  • If a message is larger than the Email Discussion List size limit, then it will not be sent and you will receive an error message.

Search the SPUN-L web archive:

Subscribers are able to search the web archive of the mailing list. The web archive is a secure site, and you will be prompted to create a password when you first access the site - please record this password and keep it in a safe place!

All subscriptions are vetted by the Email Discussion List administrator to verify that your organisation is a financial member of SPUN.

If there are any doubts regarding your eligibility for subscription to the Email Discussion List, you will be emailed for verification prior to being added to the Email Discussion List.
